Centerstone’s Therapeutic Preschool Program serves children who have experienced abuse, neglect or other traumatic experiences and are not able to be successfully involved in traditional preschool or childcare programs due to emotional and behavioral problems. Centerstone’s Therapeutic Preschool Program, the only facility of its kind in Davidson County, is a highly specialized treatment program that helps emotionally and behaviorally disturbed children, ages 2 ½ to 5 by providing:
- Essential Behavioral and Emotional Treatment is provided to children in a safe, stable, structured and nurturing environment. Victimized children are taught early-life skills (emotional and academic) necessary to develop trusting relationships, positive self-esteem, and acceptable social interactions to overcome adversity and grow into productive members of their homes, schools and communities.
- Family Support Services offers individual case management and outpatient counseling services for children and their families. Centerstone also connects children and their families to other resources within the community.
- Parenting Skills Training is a required program for all parents/caregivers that focuses on skill building, covering effective methods of discipline, communication, and education. Parents/caregivers are educated on numerous stress reduction techniques and necessary self-help strategies to promote improved social functioning and coping abilities.
- Financial Assistance is provided to families through supplementary food baskets, classroom supplies, learning materials and learning aids such as computers and educational videos. With increased financial support Centerstone is able to provide birthday and Christmas gifts to children who would otherwise receive nothing.
